It is designed to make such a rare and labor-intensive feature more available to guitar enthusiasts, with the proof in the distinctive look and sound. The process itself, features six distinct steps starting with a basecoat application to fill the grain, then moving to color application, and concluding with a French polish. Eastman's Double Top Series feature an innovative take on the classic flat top design. With a unique modification to their top tonewoods, these guitars are more resonant, responsive, and feature better note clarity and balance. The Double Top models feature a pair of one-millimetre-thin spruce slices that are adjoined by Nomex. The latter is a honeycomb-like resinous substance – patented by DuPont – that was originally designed for use in the aerospace industry.
